Title: Double Pain, Bound Hearts 2/2
Author: [livejournal.com profile] eloriekam
Challenge: Amnesty 2012: Law.
Pairing: Ten/Jack
Rating: Teen/PG-13
Warnings/Spoilers: A few references to '42' and the S3 end arc; Doctor whump
Disclaimer: Not mine, and I'm just taking them for a spin, and will return them, perhaps slightly battered.
Word Count: ~8,500
Summary: Everyone was on the wrong side of the law this time because they couldn't let something stand. Vigilantes meet vigilantes for vengeance.
Author's Notes: So the 'law' challenge bit me twice. Written from the 'Law' challenge during Amnesty 2012 for [livejournal.com profile] wintercompanion. Set after Last of the Time Lords and before Partners in Crime. Doctor whump in the first chapter and angst; hurt/comfort is hopefully here in the second chapter. I'm not entirely happy with either part of this, but I also don't want to sit on it for an entire year; all mistakes are mine and I may edit before posting elsewhere after the challenge. [livejournal.com profile] fogsblue and I were virtually squishing each other during the writing of most of this story! Wrote both parts from Dec. 26 to Dec. 30 so I was only able to proof it once.

Jack stood, reaching for the railing... )

It took the Doctor a moment to remember why his head ached... )

Title: Snared for Life
Author: [livejournal.com profile] eloriekam
Challenge: Amnesty 2012: Law.
Pairing: Ten/Jack but only subtext
Rating: Teen/PG-13
Warnings/Spoilers: No spoilers; angst and darkness.
Disclaimer: Not mine, and I'm just taking them for a spin, and will return them, perhaps slightly battered.
Word Count: ~4,300
Summary: They couldn't always escape the worlds where they meddled.... or could they?
Author's Notes: Set after Last of the Time Lords and before Partners in Crime. I have a strong suspicion that someone(s) has done this kind of thing before, but hopefully my take on it isn't totally repetitive. This plotted itself out well, but I had a hard time figuring out where to start it (and once I started it there, Ten and Jack would not shut up). So, I hope this works as written. My muse was very insistent about doing this her way. Unbeta'd, and this is my first time writing the good Captain except for a few lines in a crackfic. This fic is angsty and probably dark.

I think we may have irritated someone )

The Law Challenge is closed! Alas, there were no entries for this challenge, but if there had been, you could have found them under the challenge: law tag, or here.

But all is not lost! Maybe we can make something appear under that link after all, because December is here, and you know what that means. Hang on - this year's Amnesty Challenge is coming right up!

... In the cosmic justice system, there are two separate yet equally important constants: the Doctor, last of the race that policed time, and the Captain, the perpetual challenge to the laws of reality. We write their stories....

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, consider the following evidence:

"Good men don’t need rules… Today is not the day to find out why I have so many."

"I'm not exactly breaking the laws of time, but I am bending them a little."

"The laws of time are mine!"

"I want to see the universe, not rule it!"

The Doctor's Rules

and, famously,

"We're separate from the government, outside the police, beyond the United Nations."

The Doctor and Jack Harkness, ladies and gentlemen. Law breakers? Vigilantes? Keepers of the cosmic order? This month, we leave it in your hands to decide. Welcome to the Law Challenge, members of the jury. Breaking the law, subject to its whims, or laying it down, this month, we're asking you to tell us what happens - or tell us what happened. Are they guilty? Are they innocent? Was there justifiable cause? Or are they the ones bringing some other lawbreaker into line? We can't wait to find out.

As a gentle reminder, please don't crosspost stories for this challenge elsewhere until the challenge closes about one month from now. And don't forget - leave a comment in THIS post and tell us what you think the next challenge should be!
