You've all done it - the lines have been crossed backwards, forwards, vertically (and, since this is Jack, horizontally, in various combinations and permutations) - I think we can officially say that all that remains are shades of grey. So let's draw one big black bar and get one thing clear... the Crossing the Lines challenge is officially over. The entries can be found using the "challenge: crossing the lines" tag - or just click here.

(And thanks - what a great start for the comm! Stay tuned for the next challenge....)

Oops! We were planning on closing the Crossing the Lines challenge on Sunday, and I totally forgot. Now we're working on preparing the next challenge, and in fairness we're keeping this one open until the next one can go up. Sorry about that!

If you still have something not-quite-finished - here's your chance to get it in. The Crossing the Lines challenge will officially close on Wednesday.

Title: A Barrier I Cannot Cross
Author: Rubychan05
Challenge: "Crossing the lines"
Rating: PG13
Spoilers/warnings: Vague spoilers for Classic Who, allusions to Last of the Time Lords
Summary:
He can't follow them.

Title: Crossing the Bar
Fandom: Doctor Who
Pairing: Ten/Jack
Rating: NC-17
Summary: The Tenth Doctor is visited by a version of Jack far older than even he can imagine. Jack has come back to say two things; 'thank you' and 'I'm sorry'.
Length: 1,778 words
Notes: I should include a warning with this fic, but it rather spoils the ending. So basically, combine the rating with the fact that this is angst, and then decide whether you want to read it. Oh, also, second person narrative (warning for that is a running joke which only, um, I get).
This was written for the [livejournal.com profile] wintercompanion challenge 'Crossing the Lines'

Author: [livejournal.com profile] sarkywoman
Challenge: crossing the line
Rating: PG
Spoilers/warnings: Utopia, Sound of Drums, Last of the Time Lords.
Summary: Jack/Tenth Doctor angst drabble.
Notes: Does anyone else find all the essential pre-fic notes, tags, subject, etc to be very tiring? I thought I'd sorted it all out, only to realise I'd actually forgotten to put the fic with all this stuff.

This way to the fic )

EDIT -- decided to bump this one up to a PG, after due consideration.  Maybe it needs it, maybe it don't.

"Another Fine Mess"
Author: dameruth
Challenge: "Crossing the Lines"
Rating: G
Spoilers/warnings: None that I can think of, though the initial premise is a slight play on recurring events up through "The Shakespeare Code" . . .
Summary: A snippet from my Ten/Jack/Rose AU reunion OT3 "Findersverse" series -- however, no knowledge of that background required, other than that it's those three characters traveling together, post-POTW and post-"Doomsday."   Jack and the Doc find themselves in a tight spot after irritating royalty, yet again.

We're off! Given Jack and the Doctor, what better way to inaugurate Winter Companions as a challenge community than by tossing them into situations where they have to push the envelope. Stretch the rules. Test the boundaries....

Especially since they're so good at it already. So, here goes:

The "Crossing the Lines" Challenge!

There are all kinds of lines. Timelines, of course. Personal boundaries. Lines of communication. Society's rules and regulations. The line between life and death. The line between good and evil. The lines between universes. The line between acceptable guest behavior and sticking one's fingers in the jam jar. Lines can connect, or divide, or just end up snarled.

We all know about lines. This month, your challenge is to take the Doctor and Jack and have them do what they do best - cross the line.

A few thoughts to get you started:

  • What if Jack or the Doctor cross each other's path nonlinearly - what if Jack-now meets up with Nine-then accidentally, or Ten-later runs into Jack just before he gets back to the Hub?
  • Or: Jack's forgiving the Doctor for a whole damn lot. How far can the Doctor go before he crosses the line?
  • Or: What would it take to make an immortal die? How do you cross the line between life and death?
  • Or: How about crossing over into another universe? Different universes colliding?

So many lines, and so many possibilities. The challenge closes one month from today; posting guidelines can be found here. Interpret the prompt as you like, take any of our suggestions or not - anything's good so long as Jack or the Doctor - or both of them - end up crossing the line. What are you waiting for?

(And don't forget - leave a comment in THIS post and tell us what you think the next challenge should be!)
