Title: Somebody Say My Name
Author: [livejournal.com profile] joking
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] magic_7_words
Rating: Adult
Pairing(s): Tenth Doctor/Jack Harkness
Spoilers/warnings: Through S3 of Doctor Who and S2 of Torchwood
Summary: The Doctor doesn't know this blue-eyed ghost in a greatcoat who keeps showing up in his TARDIS – but apparently, the Doctor is his only hope of survival.
Author's Notes: This is a combination of two of [livejournal.com profile] magic_7_words' prompts:
"The Doctor is trying hard to avoid Jack and deny his feelings... but when he finds Jack hurting and in need of a friend, he can't bring himself to turn away."
"Much as they care for each other, the Doctor and Jack aren't having sex. Maybe it's a voluntary choice (e.g. the Doctor flat-out doesn't swing that way) or maybe it's imposed by outside circumstances (anti-sex pollen?). If the latter, will they ever find a way around it? And in the meantime, how else do they express their love?"

Into time and space!

... Er. Sorry. Got carried away there for a minute. *g*

In just a moment we'll be posting the first of our exchange entries for the second Winter Companions Doctor/Jack Gift Exchange. We've got some really amazing fics and artwork waiting for you!

Entries will be posted almost every day between now and the end of the month. Remember, this is an anonymous exchange, so for now author/artist names and beta names are redacted. Please don't give yourself away until the reveal! (Reveals will happen at the end of the month, and there will be a master list of submissions.)

Recipients, please remember to thank your author or artist - someone worked hard on this for you! (If there's something wrong and for some reason your author or artist didn't abide by the terms of the exchange, please contact either Woj or Dora before commenting on your gift.)

(As a gentle reminder, please don't crosspost stories for this challenge elsewhere until the challenge closes at the end of the month. Also watch for a poll to choose the prompt for our next two-month challenge, which will be posted in the second half of April.)

You have about a day left to submit your entry - all submissions are due on Saturday 5th April. If you have your submission to us while it's still Saturday anywhere in the world, you're on time.

Submission guidelines can be found here.

If you think you're going to need an extension, please send us your unfinished draft and let us know. We'll do our best to help, but if we don't receive either a completed entry or a draft with an extension request on the deadline day we will have to immediately look for a backup to take your place.

I hope you're all looking forward to next week - there are some fantastic things ahead, and we can't wait to share them with everyone! (Many thanks to the lovely people who have already sent in their entries!)

Writers and artists, your entries for the second Doctor/Jack Gift Exchange are due in a week, on Saturday 5th April!

You should have received a reminder email today. Please make sure to reply to that email and let us know if everything's on track with your entry!

To submit by the deadline, your entry needs to reach us by the end of that day. We count it as on time if it's not yet past midnight in any time zone. (Of course, if you wanted to submit your entry earlier, that would be fabulous! Many thanks to the early bird who already has.)

To keep everything running smoothly, please check the submission guidelines and read them carefully before you submit your entry.

If you're in need of a beta, you can find help at the beta volunteers post.

And if you run into any real problems with the deadline, please let us know right away! We'll do our best to help, but if we don't receive either a completed entry or a draft with an extension request on the deadline day we will have to immediately look for a backup to take your place.

Thank you, and good luck with the final stretch!

(Also, the Whump Challenge is still open for the a few days. Get those final entries in, everyone!)

This post should give you all the information you need to submit your stories and artwork for the Doctor/Jack Gift Exchange.

The basics

All stories and artwork will be posted anonymously by the mods, so please keep your assignment secret! Don't tell anyone other than your beta(s) who you're writing/creating for.

Like all [livejournal.com profile] wintercompanion challenges, prompts should be used as a point of inspiration, but since this is an exchange, you must incorporate at least one of your recipient's requests. Please respect your recipient's stated "do not wants".

Please read these submission guidelines before sending your entry to help keep things running smoothly.

Deadlines

Please take the deadline - Saturday 5th April - seriously. Should you run into any real problems with the deadline, we'll do our best to help. But this is a gift exchange, and our most important job is to make sure everyone receives a gift. Because of that, all extension requests must be accompanied by a partial draft of the story or artwork. This is the important bit: If we don't receive either a completed entry or a draft with an extension request on the deadline day we'll start looking for a backup to take your place.

If you can, it would be fantastic if you could aim to get your story or artwork in early to avoid those last minute disasters that happen to us all at times. Obviously you're free to submit your contribution as early as you like, starting right now.

If at any point you are sure you won't be able to complete your story or artwork for the fest please comment here or email us to let us know. We understand that life has a way of happening, but we can't help (or find a pinch hitter) unless you let us know.

We'll be sending out a reminder email approximately one week before the deadline as well as posting to the community.

Submission guidelines

Please submit your entry to trobadora@gmail.com - we'll respond as quickly as we can to let you know we received your entry, and we'll check it over to make sure everything's in order. :)

Your entry can be any rating, but it must involve Doctor/Jack in some form.

For reference, the rules for the exchange can be found here.

(As a gentle reminder, when stories and artworks are posted, please take the time to comment on your gift - someone has worked hard on this! If you feel your author/artist did not fulfil the terms of the exchange, please email your mods before you comment on your story.)

Assignments for the second Doctor/Jack Gift Exchange went out this weekend, and we've heard back from most of you by now.

If you haven't responded to your assignment yet, please do so as soon as you can, so we know you received it. And if there's any problem, let us know and we'll do our best to resolve it.

Thank you! Hope you're all having fun with your assignments. :)

Our regular Whump Challenge is still running until the end of March, but it's time to get started on our next event:

Welcome to the second Winter Companions Gift exchange!

Just like last year, this is an anonymous gift exchange, focusing on Captain Jack Harkness and the Doctor, in any part of their lives, any incarnations. Fic, art and vids, all ratings and genres are welcome.

The Dates

Sign-ups: 1st March - 7th March
Assignments out: 8th March
Deadline: 5th April
Posting: 7th April to 30th April
Reveals: 1st May

The Rules

  • All entries must pair the Doctor and Jack. (As usual for [livejournal.com profile] wintercompanion, gen-ish friendshippy entries are perfectly fine so long as they focus on the relationship between the Doctor and Jack and can be read as pre-slash.)

  • Stories must be at least 500 words long.
Fanart must consist of one larger piece or an icon set of at least 5 icons.
Vids (vidlets) must be at least 20 seconds long.
    There are no upper limits.

  • This is an anonymous exchange, so please keep your assignments secret! Don't tell anyone other than your beta(s) who you're writing/creating for.

  • Like all [livejournal.com profile] wintercompanion challenges, prompts should be used as a point of inspiration, but since this is an exchange, you must incorporate at least one of your recipient's requests. You do not need to incorporate all three scenarios. Please respect your recipient's stated "do not wants". (Your mods will check all gifts before posting to make sure everything is in order.)

  • Fic must be beta-read. (Here is our beta volunteers post - please offer if you can!)

  • Gifts must be submitted to the mods via email. Please read the submission guidelines carefully before you submit your entry. They also include a template to use as a header.

  • If you run into trouble with the deadline, please let us know as soon as possible.

  • If you're not participating, you can still volunteer to pinch-hit. Just comment below - pinch-hitters are loved beyond words!
