lilithbint: Lost (Jack/Nine) [G]
Lost
Author: Lilithangel
Fandom: DW/TW
Characters: Jack/the Doctor (nine)
Challenge: Stranded.
Rating/Warnings: G Contains spoilers for Exit Wounds and references to the Doctor and the Time War.
Summary: There was a time when they were both lost to the world, paying penance for their actions. There is no time, no memories, and no identities in the places in between.
A/N: I have no idea if this works or not. I hope it makes some sort of sense.
“Who are you?”
“I don’t know.”
“Where are you?”
“Here.”
“Where’s here?”
“I don’t know.” Laughter. “Who are you?”
“I don’t know.” Confusion.
“Why are you here?”
“Everybody died.” Grief.
“I failed.” Sorrow.
“What can you see?”
“Nothing, everything.”
“Fire. Everything burned.” Pain.
“So much hate, all my fault.” Regret.
“I killed them all.”
“Did you start a war?”
“No, I ended one.”
“Do you know where you were before?”
“Flames and screams.”
“Darkness. I died, I keep dying.”
“I was in the void and you called me. There is nothing else here.”
“Except us.”
“Except us.”
“You feel warm. I think I’ve been cold for a very long time. Do you know who you are yet?”
“I don’t think I want to know. It hurts too much.”
“I don’t want you to hurt.”
“I have to.”
“Penance?”
“So I never forget.”
“I forgot for a while and everyone paid the price. Will you stay here with me?”
“Wherever here is.”
“I’ve been here before, but not for this long. It’s nice to have company.”
“We can’t stay.”
“No. They will find me. Is anyone looking for you?”
“There’s nobody left to look.” Sorrow.
“Do I know you?”
“Yes, but I don’t know you, not yet.”
“How do you know that?”
“I can see all of time, every possibility, if I let myself.”
“I’m sorry.”
“No, I’m sorry. For what happens, happened, is happening.”
“Not your fault.”
“Not yours either.”
Time didn’t exist so they stayed forever and for no time. For a moment and for a thousand lifetimes.
Jack woke when the soil left his lungs and woke again when the ice left his blood and he looked up into the face of vengeance.
The Doctor woke to a world gone. The lonely child of Gallifrey. The last son and murderer floating in the void with only the broken voice of his Tardis left in his head.
Both were somehow strong enough to carry on thanks to a memory lost.
END

they have both been so broken but stayed so strong,
I like to believe they find strength in each other.

they both take so much responsibility on themselves I wanted to give them some peace.

they have both suffered so much they deserved some peace.

I wanted it to feel stark and lost so I'm glad I achieved it.

I just wanted them to have a little peace for a while,
Glad you enjoyed it.

Such an original and powerful way to write this little piece. It was different, but so very effective.
Thank you so much for sharing. I thoroughly enjoyed it. :)

they both deserved a bit of peace even if they didn't remember it.
Glad you liked it.
