CHALLENGE: Crossing the Lines

We're off! Given Jack and the Doctor, what better way to inaugurate Winter Companions as a challenge community than by tossing them into situations where they have to push the envelope. Stretch the rules. Test the boundaries....

Especially since they're so good at it already. So, here goes:

The "Crossing the Lines" Challenge!

There are all kinds of lines. Timelines, of course. Personal boundaries. Lines of communication. Society's rules and regulations. The line between life and death. The line between good and evil. The lines between universes. The line between acceptable guest behavior and sticking one's fingers in the jam jar. Lines can connect, or divide, or just end up snarled.

We all know about lines. This month, your challenge is to take the Doctor and Jack and have them do what they do best - cross the line.

A few thoughts to get you started:

  • What if Jack or the Doctor cross each other's path nonlinearly - what if Jack-now meets up with Nine-then accidentally, or Ten-later runs into Jack just before he gets back to the Hub?
  • Or: Jack's forgiving the Doctor for a whole damn lot. How far can the Doctor go before he crosses the line?
  • Or: What would it take to make an immortal die? How do you cross the line between life and death?
  • Or: How about crossing over into another universe? Different universes colliding?

So many lines, and so many possibilities. The challenge closes one month from today; posting guidelines can be found here. Interpret the prompt as you like, take any of our suggestions or not - anything's good so long as Jack or the Doctor - or both of them - end up crossing the line. What are you waiting for?

(And don't forget - leave a comment in THIS post and tell us what you think the next challenge should be!)

Even though I'm going to exploit this challenge for the purposes of dark!Jack, I still want more dark!Jack. So yeah, my challenge? Dark!Jack. Because the Doctor hurts pretty.

Given the end of S3 this will probably be AU.

What did Jack do in the Year That Never Was that would make an 'angry Doc' throw a 'fragile/sick Jack' bodily off the TARDIS? Please not MPREG.

As much as I'd like the idea to be a future challenge, I agree that it would be very restricted.

But I would be pleased as punch if one of the talented writers in this site would take it up as a topic for the current one.

PS - sorry if I shouldn't have posted the first message here, I didn't see a topic list like the last time.

Aww...I understand why you did it, but I'll miss not posting to my LJ first! I'll just have to get used to searching for my comments to fic! ^_^

Next challenge? Hmm...maybe something corny like first kiss or first time.

Although I'd personally love a challenge about what would happen if the Doctor turned up at the Hub with/without the rest of the team there.

Er, you do get comments from posts you make in communities, even without tracking...

I'm sure you do get comments from a post you make in a community just the same as from a post you make in your own LJ...

Oh sorry, what I meant was, I'll have to remember to actually check out my entry on here, since I normally skip the main pages at LJ and go straight into my actual LJ!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you - do you mean you don't get comments emailed?

Yup! I'll start doing that now though!

I'd never manage to keep up with anything without emailed comments! It's good for lazy people like me. *g*
