2010 Doctor/Jack Fest - Rules

The 2010 Doctor/Jack Fest is a fest for all things Doctor/Jack - fic, art, vids or anything else you feel inspired for, so long as it pairs the Doctor and Captain Jack Harkness. Any Doctor (including 10.5); any version of Jack (and yes, a version from Pete's world would count).

This is how it works:

Phase 1: Prompts

From now until February 28th, midnight GMT (when is that?) we'll be collecting prompts for the fest.

There are two prompt collection posts - one for general prompts, one for prompts that contain spoilers for the unaired series 5. Anyone can submit prompts, whether you plan to join the fest itself or not.

Here is the spoiler-free prompt collection post - comment there to leave your general prompts.

Here is the spoileriffic prompt collection post - comment there to leave any prompts that contain spoilers for series 5.

You can submit as many prompts as you like. The more, the better!

Prompts can be simple - just a phrase, a word, an item, or a quote - or more complex, like a scenario you'd like to see. Don't use more than 50 words, though - inspire people, don't do their writing for them.

On March 1st, we'll be posting the full list of prompts, again in two posts, one with and one without spoilers for the new series.

Phase 2: Writing/creating

Once the prompt posts are up, all you need to do to join is pick a prompt (any prompt) and comment to claim it. And then write/create. No worries, we won't hunt you down and throw you into the nearest black hole if you find you can't complete your fic or artwork or vid - that's just so we can see how many people are interested. :-)

You have until March 31st to write, vid or otherwise create your entry. If you sign up right at the start, that means you have a month - but you can also come in later and join in. (Or earlier - nothing's stopping you from starting to write/vid/whatever as soon as you see a prompt you like!) Whenever you want, just comment to claim your prompt. Or a second prompt, or a third one! Write or create as many entries as you like.

You can use more than one prompt for one entry, and you can combine prompts from the spoiler-free and the spoileriffic lists. The separate lists are just to make sure no one gets accidentally spoiled by looking at prompts.

And don't worry: more than one person can use the same prompt. That's what fanfic (and fanart) is about, after all: different takes on the same thing. So go and have fun with it!

There's no length or size requirement - from drabble to epic, from icons to wallpaper to painting, it's all good. (And kudos to you if you can manage an epic within a month. *g*)

Absolutely anything goes, so long as it involves Doctor/Jack. No other restrictions, apart from common sense. (Which is to say - no character bashing, please!)

Once you're done, post your fic/artwork/vid/... to this community - we ask that you please don't post it elsewhere while the fest runs, but you'll be free to repost it in your own space afterwards. (And of course feel free to crosspost announcements now! The more people you can bring here, the better. Who knows, they may even decide to join in. :D)

Please include the following header info when you post to the comm:

Please use the following format for your subject line:

When you post your entry, make sure anything spoilery is hidden behind a cut, including any prompts from the spoileriffic list, and please tag your story with the "challenge: 2010 fest" tag and any other appropriate tags from the list. (You can find the full list of tags in the sidebar.)

On April 1st, we'll be posting a masterlist of all entries submitted. Which will hopefully be many. :-)

Any more questions? Leave us a comment here!

If you're all set, go to the prompt posts and leave us your prompts! And don't forget to pimp this fest - the more people join in, the better!

I have a question! I have a question!

Erm, yes.

I've already seen a couple of prompts that caught my eye and I would love to snurtch. However, I know in advance that due to uni work, unless the biblical magnitude sort of miracle happens, there will be nothing from me on the 31st of March.

Should I then not sign up? :(

Gotcha. Cheers for that. :)

Do you have to comment and claim a prompt first or can you just post a fic response when you finish it? (As I see a few I'd like to try but my time is wibbly-wobbly.)
