“So if you don’t trust me to do anything… Why I am even here?” Jack said quietly before turning his back on the Doctor and leaving the TARDIS control room.
Jack went to look for his own bedroom, a room the TARDIS conveniently located near the control room. He entered and fell down into his favorite chair. Jack had not been here very often since he had returned to the TARDIS.
The Doctor had come back for Jack sixteen months ago and they had been living and sleeping together ever since. He really should have known things had been going too well for them, Jack thought.
For the past two weeks it seemed like the Doctor had been increasingly irritated by Jack. It seemed to Jack like he could do nothing right anymore, and it was beginning to wear him down.
Today they had visited a planet and ended up running for their lives again. It had been nobody’s fault, but the Doctor had been implying Jack did something the whole way back to the TARDIS.
Despite his feelings for the Doctor and his love towards the ship he was living on, Jack was not sure how long he could deal with this anymore.
The Doctor deflated the minute Jack walked out of the control room. Jack’s quiet words were ringing in his ears and even the TARDIS lights had dimmed.
“I did not handle that very well,” the Doctor muttered to himself. The TARDIS hummed as if she was agreeing with him.
But how could he tell Jack that his behavior over the past weeks was just a way of dealing with things. The Doctor was not used to feeling this happy and now his own behavior was threatening what he and Jack had together.
“I need to fix this,” the Doctor said. “Take me somewhere I can make it right.”
Minutes later the TARDIS landed somewhere. The Doctor opened the door and looked outside. The TARDIS had landed on some kind of Tropical Island. No signs of civilization at all, just an endless beach and magnificent waves.
The Doctor smiled; this would suit his needs perfectly. He’d show Jack that he could do romantic after all; it would be something his Captain never expected of him.
Meanwhile Jack had drifted off to sleep. He was unaware of the plans made by the Doctor and his TARDIS.
The Doctor had been rushing back and forth between the beach and the TARDIS to prepare the perfect scene. He had just finished when the TARDIS alerted him that Jack had woken up.
Jack rubbed the sleep from his eyes and decided to go and look for the Doctor. He walked to the control room and saw that the TARDIS door was open. He frowned; he couldn’t remember the TARDIS landing. And where was the Doctor?
When Jack stepped outside, his mouth fell open as he took in the scene in front of him. A secluded beach with a blanket and picnic basket in the middle of a bunch of candles, the sounds of the waves and Jack’s favorite Cole Porter songs in the background.
Suddenly the Doctor stepped out of the shadows, holding his hand out to Jack.
“Like it, my Captain?”
“Love it,” Jack answered as he took the Doctor’s hands. All his worries were melting away at the uncharacteristically romantic gesture of the Doctor.
The Doctor pulled Jack towards him and they slowly started to dance to the music.
“I’m sorry, my Jack.” The Doctor whispered in Jack’s ear. “I’m just not used to feeling so happy and I guess I don’t know how to deal with it. I never meant to imply that I don’t trust you.”
Jack sighed; he had guessed that it had to be something like this.
“It’s okay,” Jack said, looking the Doctor in the eye. “Just don’t shut me out again. I know neither of us is easy to live with and that we’ll mess up, but it’s worth it. You’re worth it.”
The Doctor smiled, relieved that Jack had forgiven him so easily. There might still be problems in their future but right now all was right. He pulled the other man closer to his own body and they danced for a while longer.
Then the Doctor pulled away and started to move towards the blanket. Jack followed and sat down next to his lover.
“This is amazing.” Jack sighed as they watched out over the ocean.
“I remember you complaining about the snow and the cold last time we were on Woman Wept,” the Doctor told Jack with a soft smile. “Now I thought I’d show you the tropics, and here we are.”
“Here we are indeed,” Jack said as he leaned over to kiss his Doctor.
The Doctor responded eagerly to the kiss and they traded deep, soft kisses for a while. When Jack pulled away, they were both flushed and panting.
The Doctor reached over and grabbed the basket he had placed on the blanket as well. Jack smiled as more and more food came out of the basket. Jack and the Doctor had a light dinner; laughing and sharing stories, feeling more relaxed than they had in while.
Once dinner ended the Doctor pulled Jack up and they started dancing again. The two lovers shared passionate kisses and touches.
After the sun had gone down, the Doctor and Jack were laying side to side on the blanket, looking at the stars. They shared more kisses and touches. The night took on an almost dream-like quality.
The Doctor could not stop touching his lover. He kissed, licked and sucked each piece of Jack’s skin that he revealed. Jack had never felt so loved in his entire long life. The music had long since stopped and they were now moving to their own beat.
When the Doctor finally slid into Jack, both men let out sighs of relief. The Doctor moved faster and faster, while he wrapped a hand around Jack. Seconds or minutes or hours later both men screamed their releases to the heavens.
The Doctor and Jack fell asleep wrapped in each other’s arms, basking in their love for each other.
