vail-kagami: Like Walking Through a Labyrinth (Jack/Ten) [NC-17]

Title: Like Walking Through a Labyrinth
Author: [livejournal.com profile] vail_kagami
Challenge:
Amnesty/Darkness
Rating: NC-17
Spoilers: None
Warnings: PWP
Summary: Jack and the Doctor have sex, and all is well.

Dealing with the Doctor, Jack has found, is more often than not like walking through a labyrinth. Blindfolded. And all the light bulbs are broken.

It is his strong moral code that makes things difficult, but also his arrogance and sense of self-righteousness. The Time Lord wants to do good and he expects others to do good, but always on his terms. There is little acceptance of other ways. Sometimes (Jack knows this all too well) a person has to be killed for another to be saved. Sometimes many lives have to be risked in order to save a planet. But the Doctor never sees reason when it comes to that, condemns such a decision unless he makes it himself. So little faith in the judgment of others, or perhaps he simply is masochistic and unwilling to share the guilt.

It doesn’t help that his paradigms seem to change in every context. An action approved of the last time they met might cause anger and disappointment the next. With every change of the situation the rules are rewritten, and Jack has never figured out the underlying map. He’s still stumbling blindly through the darkness, bumping into things, bruising his shins and getting a bloody nose.

Sex with the Doctor is no different. There are few rules that never change. One is that the Doctor will never initiate it. It’s always up to Jack. When he wants to sleep with his Time Lord he’ll have to ask for it, or beg for it, or simply take it, and there is only one right way to go at any time. If Jack chooses the wrong one, the Doctor pushes him away, or leaves, or just snorts and keeps on reading his book and Jack is left frustrated and horny for the rest of the day.

Sometimes Jack is completely in control, sometimes he can only do what the Doctor allows him to, when he is allowed to. He never knows where his lover’s moods are leading him, always feeling his way through the dark. When it comes to sex, the Doctor is always giving, never taking, but he’s the one holding all the cards.

Jack’s head falls back and he groans loudly, bucking his hips. The fingers on his cock are stroking softly – feathery touches, just teasing. He feels the Doctor’s breath on his exposed skin as his lips hover a hair’s breadth from the head of his painfully hard penis.

He expects those lips to close around it, but instead all he gets is a soft kiss, before that amazing, skilled tongue slowly licks its way down his shaft and teases the skin of his balls. Jack moans and writhes, his fingers first clenched into the sheets and then into the Doctor’s hair. He doesn’t hold back any of his reactions, lets them run wild instead, for it’s encouraging the Doctor, makes him work harder and faster. Today it does.

Not long and Jack is thrusting shallowly into that eager mouth while teeth graze his skin ever so slightly in all the right places. He can feel his orgasm building, is almost there as moist lips run up and down his cock and –

stop.

Jack’s wriggling stops. He barely dares to breathe while the Doctor holds himself above him, completely still. His hands tremble in the other’s hair. His eyes are closed. It’s dark and he doesn’t know where to go.

Then the tip of a tongue is pressed to the base of his cock, moves left and right for no more than a fraction. Jack’s moan is almost a scream, and the spell is broken. Still he does not come. It’s something the Doctor does, when he feels like it – holding out Jack’s orgasm as long as he pleases.

This is torture, and Jack relishes every second of it. There is nothing on his mind. Nothing at all besides pleasure, excitement, frustration and love.

He bears it seconds and hours before he pushes the Doctor away, flips him over, is upon him to press him down, into the sheets and the pillows. His heart is racing. This could end badly, with anger, annoyance or indifference, all leading ultimately away from sexual satisfaction. This is like playing with fire. He feels like he’s going to explode.

Beneath him the Doctor looks up, large brown eyes full of surprise, weariness and hidden amusement. Jack kisses him forcefully, in a clashing of teeth and tongues. Regaining an illusion of control he never had.

“I want to be inside you,” he growls, demands, biting his lover’s throat. “I want to come inside you!” His hands find thin wrists and hold them down, slender hands that can push him off without effort. A rush of adrenaline surges through him, as if in battle. Will the Doctor run away now? If so, will he want to be stopped? Will he become genuinely uncomfortable, scared as he sometimes does when Jack pushes too far? Jack’s breaths are hard and fast, trying to keep up with his pulse as he runs through the darkness, at any moment expecting to hit a wall.

The Doctor chuckles softly, and Jack feels him move. Parting his legs for the man who pretends he can own him.

“Then come.”

Wow, hot. *fans self*

That's a great exploration of what it's like to be with the Doctor - feeling your way in the dark really is the perfect metaphor. Amazing.

*points at other comments with a grin*

I agree. Very nice... *purrs*

And also, you know, deep and wonderful - a great exploration of their relationship and very true to both their characters. *Love* the pace in this one. :D

*returns to shallower thoughts*

*mems*

The uncertainty and frustration pouring out of Jack is palpable. Fantastic job.

Sometimes it's nice to read a story that's dark without being darkfic!

And what a lovely metaphor -- Jack feeling his way in the dark through a twisty turny maze where the paths are never the same. (sounds a little like a grumpy TARDIS :) )

...all the light bulbs are broken.

I had an interesting reaction to this line. I thought of broken glass all over the floor that Jack has to walk on. OK, I watched "Die Hard" a few nights ago, but still...

The Time Lord wants to do good and he expects others to do good, but always on his terms.

An excellent description of the Doctor, or one of his many facets, anyway. (I should collect some fanauthor descriptions of the Doctor one of these days.)

He never knows where his lover’s moods are leading him, always feeling his way through the dark. ...the Doctor is always giving, never taking, but he’s the one holding all the cards.

Kind of how Jack used to be with his team(and sometimes still is).

*ahem* Mini-beta moment:...buckling his hips. I think you mean "bucking." ...lets them run while instead... Did you mean "wild?" *ahem* Now back to our regularly scheduled review :)

is almost there...and –

stop.

Jack’s wriggling stops. He barely dares to breathe while the Doctor holds himself above him, completely still...It’s dark and he doesn’t know where to go.

I love how you wrote this. I actually stopped breathing. Jack is completely lost. The Doctor's stranded him. (But he'll come back this time.)

This is torture, and Jack relishes every second of it...like playing with fire.

He would. Jack's still an adventurer, and he's still up for a challenge. But he's not the only one...

Will he become genuinely uncomfortable, scared as he sometimes does when Jack pushes too far?

...the Doctor's playing too.

One of the things I love about your stories is how much more I can pick up on subsequent readings. It may be written from Jack's perspective, but it's clear where the Doctor's head is at as well. (No, besides that :) ) The Doctor's full of surprises -- he comes across here as cunning, yet wild and dangerous -- but so is Jack. The "dance" has gotten darker and more interesting. Is that a glint of glass on the floor?

But it's not all a game. Their love for each other shows, too -- not too twisted and not too schmoopy. Just perfect.

Oh, and did I mention it's blisteringly hot? *fans self vigorously*

I love the labyrinth in the dark as a metaphor for Jack's relationship to the Doctor. Great observations about his inconsistency and need for control.

And then there was hot sex, and that was very good too. ;)

[identity profile] nightrider101.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Holy freaking crap!!!!!!

How the HELL did I miss this?? Why didn't you tell me? Oh, honey, this is amazing!

You've written the Doctor in the most perfect light. Fumbling in the dark is the best way to describe being around the Doctor.

This part was so painful and very true: Sometimes many lives have to be risked in order to save a planet. But the Doctor never sees reason when it comes to that, condemns such a decision unless he makes it himself. So little faith in the judgment of others, or perhaps he simply is masochistic and unwilling to share the guilt.

And the sex was hot as hell!

This is definitely going in my favorites! Bloody amazing, you are!

Was I drunk? You know you can't tell me anything when I've been drinking. :P

At least I found it now. :D I hope you're having a wonderful vacation!

Excellent work.

This is what keeps me coming back to your fics. It's been said in almost every other comment, but your metaphors and descriptions of the Doctor are spot on. I love the unpredictable aspect that you've written into his character here. He's unpredictable, but in a kind of laid-back, mellow way, and I think it works really well. And the fact that he is in complete control, whether it seems that way or not. It's a really nice contrast to so many of the stories where he's fighting to keep control as it's slowly being taken away. (Of course, I haven't read a whole lot of Ten/Jack fics, so most of that observation is based on Ten/Master stuff that happens to have Ten/Jack in it as well.)

I hardly noticed the sex in this (well, I did, but this wasn't just some pwp to me). While I read the part where Jack's patience runs out, and he mentions playing with fire, I actually had this image of him balanced on the edge of a cliff, daring the Doctor to push him off. It definitely works. Jack is so used to just going for it and getting his way, and he can't do that with the Doctor. He has to tread carefully, and that's another thing you've captured well.

Whew-eee! I've only just had a bath and now I need a cold shower. And possibly a change of underwear...

Great writing.

wow I really like this, your imagery is great and describes the Doctor perfectly.

Jack's neverending frustration really comes through very well in this.

This is a great exploration into their relationship. I really love the buildup and the whole style of the piece. The descriptions were perfect, as was characterization. Lovely job.^^

Lovely :) Hot, and a little complicated.

[livejournal.com profile] rose_cat recced this fic to me because it's thematically similar to one I just wrote, and... this is lovely. The characterization is just absolutely spot-on - that's the Doctor all over, the unpredictability and occasional hypocrisy, and poor Jack trying to work his way through, like all the Doctor's companions have to. The sex is pretty damn hot too. ^^
