Winter Companions: New community rules!

Our poll has been running for a while now, and I think the results are pretty clear:

We'll convert wintercompanion into a challenge comm with monthly challenges, and we will open the comm to other Doctor/Jack pairings. Of course you'll be able to just keep writing Ten/Jack if you prefer - I for one certainly wouldn't complain!

Our first challenge will be posted soon. For now, we've updated the tags and the links list in the sidebar as well as edited the userinfo.

The format for our challenges will be modelled after sga_flashfic and ds_flashfiction, with kind permission from the mods, and wintercompanion will follow the same basic rules. Here are our new rules, which you can also find in the userinfo:

Content policies

Anything involving a Doctor/Jack pairing is welcome here - fic, art, vids or anything else pairing you can come up with. Pre-slash or subtexty works are fine as well. Your entry may contain other pairings, so long as there is a Doctor/Jack pairing involved.

There's no length or size requirement - from drabble to epic, from icons to wallpaper to painting, it's all good. (And kudos to you if you can manage an epic within the time frame of a challenge. *g*)

Simple, isn't it? However:

Please do not post anything other than challenge entries to this community. Questions, suggestions or anything else you'd like to talk to us about can be posted in the comments to any mod post. If there is an issue you feel the community as a whole should be aware of, please contact the mods first - it's their job to take care of such issues, after all.

And please apply common sense - that means no flaming, trolling, character bashing or anything of the like. (You're not going to do any of that, are you?)

Time frame

Challenges will be posted once every month; you have one month to respond to the challenge. At the end of that period, the challenge will be formally closed by one of the mods; you may post entries up to that formal closing message.

All entries must be posted only to the wintercompanion community for the duration of the challenge. Once a challenge is formally closed, no more stories for that challenge will be accepted, and you are free to crosspost your story to your own LJ, webpage, archive, or anywhere else.

A new challenge will be posted shortly afterwards.

Posting format

When you post your entry to wintercompanion, make sure anything spoilery is hidden behind a cut. Stories, artwork and vids should be posted behind a cut with only the header info/teaser visible – please include the following header info:

Title:
Author/Artist/Vidder/...:
Challenge:
Rating:
Spoilers/warnings: (please list episodes your entry could be considered spoilery for, even if they're old)
Summary:

Please also include your LJ name, title, pairing and rating in the subject line of your post in the following format:

username: Title (Pairing) [Rating]

That makes it much easier for readers browsing the comm, and for the mods to tag your entries correctly. And if you want to save your mods some work, please tag your entries yourself! There will be tags available for each challenge, as well as pairings. Author/artist/vidder tags will be added as needed.

Spoiler policy

If your entry contains spoilers for an episode that has not yet aired anywhere (e.g. Torchwood series 2 or Doctor Who series 4) or has aired in the UK less than a month ago, include a spoiler warning and make sure nothing spoilery is visible outside the cut tag.

If something has aired in the UK more than a month ago, it's fair game, but please err on the side of caution with your header info.

Regardless of whether there is anything "new" in your entry, please list episodes (or entire series, if that is the case) your entry could be considered spoilery for - even if it's Old Who.

Quick question - I usually post to my own LJ then use the hyperlink to post to comms behind a cut. How can I post to Wintercompanion without crossposting to my LJ first or putting the whole story in the post? (Still learning LJ tricks, sorry....)

The idea is that you post the whole story to wintercompanion, behind a cut. Keeping all challenge entries in the comm itself for the duration of the challenge will hopefully bring more people directly to this comm. :-)

When you're at the "post to journal" page, there's a "post to" drop-down box that will have your lj name at it. Click the drop-down part and it will list all the communities that you're a member of. Just click on wintercompanion and format your post as usual, with LJ-cut and all.

Ah, yes, I think I've seen you do that - the link that actually takes readers to the fic is behind the cut. In case you don't realise, that makes people click twice to get to your fic. Where all you're doing is posting a hyperlink, you don't need to put it behind a cut. Speaking personally - and it's probably just me being weird - half the time, if I click on the cut and then find another link below before I can read the fic, I don't bother. It's extra clicking and then more clicking to get back to the journal I've started from.

Only post actual fics (and artwork and such) behind a cut - not links. :)

Is/was there a policy on threesomes? Most of my Jack/Doctor stuff seems to be Nine/Rose/Jack.

Threesomes are allowed, so long as there's some focus on the relationship between Jack and the Doctor and not only on their relationship with the third person. I hope that makes sense. :-)

No worries! Let me know which post, and what the correct tags should be, and I'll fix it for you.

Unfortunately there's no setting that lets members remove existing tags from their entries - you only get that ability if you also can create new tags, for some reason. :-(
