octopus_fool: Of Porridge and Baths (Jack/9) [PG]

Title: Of Porridge and Baths
Author: [livejournal.com profile] octopus_fool
Challenge: 2011 Doctor/Jack Bingo Fest
Prompt used: Two Heroes and a Baby (not necessarily human)
Rating: PG
Pairing: Jack/9 (if you accept the slightly AU timeline, otherwise, any incarnation will do)
Spoilers/warnings: small mention of mpreg, ever so slight spoilers of TW S1E1, but not really
Summary: Feeding an infant can be quite a challenge…

Jack couldn‘t help but laugh at the sight that greeted him when he entered the room.
“As far as I know, not even oods eat by osmosis, Doctor.”

The Doctor shot him a dark look and held out the squirming, porridge-covered infant to him.
“Do you want to try feeding her? I’m sure the tentacles won’t give you any problems getting the food into her mouth.”

Jack hesitated for a split second before he strode over to them.
“Alright, I’ll feed her, if you keep her on your lap.”

Jack took a spoonful of porridge from the bowl on the table and brought it toward the young ood’s mouth. A tentacle immediately grabbed hold of the spoon and a glob of food landed in his face.

The Doctor chuckled and the infant hummed in delight as Jack tried to wipe the worst of it away. He only succeeded in spreading the porridge around.

“I guess we have to practice a bit more before we adopt or go to a reproductive medicine centre in the Crayfish System,” the Doctor laughed. “Currently, I think any child staying with us longer than the time it takes them to get us out of this deadlock would go hungry quite soon.”

Jack fondly touched the ood’s head.

“Don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll get you fed eventually, although I think a bath is in order before bedtime, little lady.”
She listened to him attentively and Jack used the opportunity to feed her a large spoonful.
“And after that, I think the Doctor and I will be in need of a bath all for ourselves,” Jack added with a wink at his fellow babysitter.

“Jack…” The slight reprimand was clear in the Doctor’s voice.

“What? There’s nothing wrong with taking an innocent bath… Besides, there won’t be much else to do around here once she’s in bed…”

The Doctor shook his head but could no longer keep the grin entirely from his face.
“Just finish feeding her, and we’ll see about everything else later…”

I probably should not find the idea of a baby!Ood charming - but I do! How completely adorable. And yes, feeding a sprog with tentacles would be difficult indeed. :-)
