Running
The Captain was tired of running. Tired of the endless one-night stands and the banality of his endless life. For decades now he had been on the move, never staying in one place for long. Never letting anyone get too close, lest their warmth try and touch his frozen heart.
There was another reason why he ran. The Doctor had been perusing him for many of his wandering years. He had managed to stay one step ahead of him. He knew what the Time Lord was going to say and he wasn't ready to hear it.
He sat shivering on the cold floor of a dingy hotel room, staring at a fire place whose embers had long ago gone dark. He knew he had died at least twice of dehydration. He didn't care. He would wait for as long as it took.
He didn't move when he heard the sound of space warping. A sound like the laboured breathing of a mechanized runner. He didn't move when he heard the door open or when he heard the footsteps coming towards him.
Strong arms enfolded him and whispered, "I forgive you."
The ice in his heart shattered and the tears fell.
Complete Master List
Don't be shy. Tell me if you liked it.
