Long Memories

Nothing’s ever forgotten.

For the Doctor, it’s memories of Gallifrey, of planets destroyed in blazing infernos that spread across galaxies, of Dalek armies marching across the universe, and of megalomaniac Time Lords as dangerous as the real enemy.

For Jack, it’s lovers gained and lost, friends dying in his arms, and the occasions it was his fault. It’s the lover he lost due to hubris, and the innocent child forced to watch his supposed uncle kill him.

Nothing is ever forgotten.

But sometimes, too, they share memories of better times, silently promising each other companionship in disasters yet to come.

Oh, wow! This is beautiful so sad and poignant, and you really captured their inner thoughts and feelings so perfectly. Each of them has experienced so much loss and sadness in their lives, but in the end they realised that they would always have each other. You did a magnificent job with the prompt. Thank you! I love drabbles, because of the opportunity to play with language and the sound of phrases, length of paragraphs and so on, all staying within 100 words and aiming for some kind of emotional resonance. And Ten and Jack have emotional resonance in spades :)
