Jack and the Doctor had just landed in an earth park in the year 2123. Jack had a gut feeling that something was wrong, very wrong and the Doctor could sense it too. They grabbed their guns and slowly opened the door to the TARDIS a crack. They couldn’t see anyone or anything so they opened it a bit further and then a bit more until they stepped outside.
That was when Jack saw her.
The Doctor bumped into Jack who had suddenly stilled as the woman turned around. When she saw Jack she clucked her tongue like she was telling off a small child.
“Fuck,” Jack whispered softly so the Doctor could barely hear him.
“Who is she?” the Doctor asked right up against Jack.
“Time Agent. Used to work with her. You could say we didn’t get along too well.” Jack said bluntly not wanting to stay on the topic for too long. He slipped out his gun before saying, “Alana, I didn’t think I’d see you here.”
“Oh my naïve innocent stupid murderous Jack- that’s what you’re going now isn’t you?” she asked before continuing, “You think this was an accident meeting you here don’t you? I’ve been tracking you for years.”
“Murderous! Jack wouldn’t hurt a fly in cold blood! He only hurts people if he absolutely has too!” the Doctor snapped at her before Jack could respond.
“Oh hasn’t he told you? Here I was sure he was bragging about it to everyone,” she said in a sarcastic voice. Jack was looking more and more confused by the second. He had no idea what she was going on about.
Alana pondered for a moment like she was considering something, “Well maybe he wouldn’t brag about it to you since it was your planet he destroyed, wouldn’t want you to know that would he?”
Jack just stared at her as the Doctor tried to convince her that it was he whom destroyed Galifrey. Everything was coming back. It was like a flood. It was a flood but it was a flood of memories that had been locked behind a memory block. “No…” he chocked out before falling to his knees.
“You broke through the memory block I placed on you, Jack,” Alana stated knowing what was happening to him as he fell to the ground in pain. It hurt physically as the memories came back but also emotionally as he realised the full extent of what had happened in those two years.
“You bastard!” Jack yelled at her when he had the strength to do more than shake on the ground.
“Jack?” the Doctor crouched down next to him concerned. Placing a hand on Jacks back and running it around in soothing circles he continued, “Is it true? Were you the one who destroyed Galifrey?”
“It was an accident, all an accident,” Jack said softly. “I was supposed to meet up with a person; I didn’t know who though and take them to a different planet so they could do something, I never found out what as it wasn’t part of my job to know. I turned up in the middle of a battle of the Great Time War though I didn’t know it at the time. I was attacked. I just followed my instincts not knowing exactly what I was doing. I pressed this button and then something happened. I don’t know what exactly but there was this bright blinding light and then I fainted. When I woke up… I was at the Time Agency headquarters. That was when I had my memories wiped.”
The Doctor knew that it was hurting Jack remembering what was happening. He took Jack into his arms and stroked his hair. “Hey, it’s alright. I know it was an accident. I don’t blame you for what happened to Galifrey.”
Jack looked at the Doctor with wide eyes not believing what he was hearing. He opened his mouth to speak but the Doctor spoke instead. “I. Do. Not. Blame. You. I spent the last two hundred years believing I had destroyed it. Yes I am a bit relieved that I didn’t destroy the planet but I don’t blame you for it,” the Doctor lifting Jack’s head so that he was looking at him. “Believe me.”
Jack nodded and then lent his head against the Doctor’s chest. “Thank you,” Jack whispered to him. He leaned up and placed a quick kiss on the Doctor’s lips. Jack turned to Alana and said, “You know, I just have a feeling that your plan didn’t work. You wanted him to distrust me but looks like you didn’t take into account our love for each other.” Alana looked furious before turning on her heal and disappearing.
Jack smiled brightly at Ten before whispering “Thank you, love.”
