This is such a jagged mess of love and loathing. I was so touched by lines like this:
All certainties of life abandon him one by one, but the Doctor stays. His relationship with the Doctor is a Fact.
(Jack/Doctor being just as much of a fact as Jack himself, oh my heart!) And then splinters right in the heart like this:
“The hubris is part of your charm, you know,” he tells him, raising his head. The Doctor’s mouth, bruised and swollen, is inches from his. “But it will be your downfall one day.”
Because we all know how Ten dies, and Jack is so, so right. The timey-wimeyness makes this fic a knot of fluffy yarn and barbed wire that I can't, and don't want, to untangle.
